Casey earns multiple honors for conservation research

We’re excited to celebrate an exceptional spring semester for Casey Ernest, one of our standout graduate researchers!

In April, Casey earned 2nd place in the Math/Computer Science/Natural Sciences Division at the UMSL Graduate Research Fair for her poster, “Are There Desert Fish that Make Sinkholes Their ‘Sinkhomes?”

In addition to her success at the research fair, Casey has been honored with multiple prestigious awards and fellowships this spring:

  • A Howard McCarley Student Research Grant from the Southwestern Association of Naturalists, supporting innovative student-led research in natural history.

  • A Robert Klemm, PhD, Conservation Scholar Award from Sunset Zoo in Manhattan, Kansas, recognizing her commitment to conservation science.

  • A Trans World Airlines (TWA) Scholarship from the University of Missouri System, awarded to students tackling critical environmental issues.

  • And a Whitney R. Harris and Saint Louis Zoo Fellowship in Animal Conservation, supporting her ongoing efforts to study and protect vulnerable species.

Congratulations, Casey—we can’t wait to see where your work takes you next!
