In an effort to understand the molecular basis of adaptation to hydrogen sulfide springs, we have been working with Joanna Kelley’s lab at Washington State University to sequence and analyze transcriptomes from multiple population of sulfide spring fishes of the genus Poecilia. The results of the study have recently been published in Molecular Biology and Evolution, and a variety of news sources have covered our findings. Stay tuned for some additional papers on the mechanisms underlying tolerance to hydrogen sulfide in the near future!
