Revisiting Poecilia thermalis, after 150 years

On last year’s Mexico trip, we rediscoveredĀ a small fish species (Poecilia thermalis) that has not been collected since its first discovery in 1848. The species is a sulfide spring inhabitant, and its investigation has shed some new light onto the evolution of sulfide spring fishes. Maura Palacios has taken the lead on a recent paper illuminating this unique fish.
